Well, kiddos, I am off for the weekend...having a little gathering to celebrate the upcoming birth of Second Niece.
Apparently First Niece has been banned from the premises for the festivities. Not my choice...I had planned on making her my little helper. But an adult who outranks me deemed it an adults only kinda thing. Hmph.
Mom has already called asking why I haven't left yet. Gotsta go!

While I'm gone, consider this an open thread...suggested topics include favorite mixed drinks (include recipes), recommended song downloads, and the pros and cons of Glock semi-automatics. I look forward to all two of your comments when I get back.
Posted by Jenelle at March 7, 2008 10:57 AM | TrackBackInstead of a Glock, we're planning of purchasing of (probably) a .22 Ruger just for fun. I've also got my eye on the sweet Springfield Arms .40 or .45.
What do you already own, that you would recommend? --JEN
Posted by: Ted at March 8, 2008 10:28 AMMixed Drinks? what's that? These days I'm so paranoid about the crazy dwi laws that I have pretty much given up drinking.
That's why I want recipes...to make at home. Ta da! --JEN
Posted by: pete at March 8, 2008 06:33 PMSpeaking of song downloads how are the pickings on campus? I am always seeing how colleges are such a hotbed of file sharing that the RIAA was specifically targeting them so I figured you would be up on it.
I wouldn't know, but I can tell you they have lots of rules on how much space and bandwidth you can use on campus-networked computers. It's meant to keep the downloaders out of the dorms at least. --JEN

Song Downloads - the new Wilco album
Glocks - The Wife and I are tossing around the idea of buying guns and getting concealed carry permits. How crazy is that?
Regarding the guns...me, too! --JEN
Posted by: shank at March 10, 2008 11:39 AMI' m with Shank on the guns and the concealed carry permit, but I'm more inclined towards a snub nosed .38 or a Walther PPK. And no, that's not crazy. But unfortunately, the people on which one would have to use them are.
Are you basing the recommendations on your own experience? --JEN
Mixed drink--pretty pedestrian, even old man drink ... Crown and 7.
Song downloads--lately I'm downloading singles I happen to hear on the radio or on a commercial, especially old stuff I never bought before because I didn't want the whole album.
Posted by: Rev. Mike at March 10, 2008 01:40 PMI was going to comment here, but it seems like I should do it in the individual comments. So that'll be happening momentarily...
Posted by: Jenelle at March 11, 2008 03:40 PMWell you can't go wrong with Captain Morgan and coke. I haven't done the crazy mixed drinks in years.
Posted by: pete at March 11, 2008 04:59 PMWe don't own a gun at the moment. Before we were married, I had hunting rifles and shotguns, and a very nice .357 Smith&Wesson revolver with a 6" barrel. The nice thing about the pistol was that you could shoot cheap .38's for practice, and use the .357's for real work if called for.
I really suggest going to a good sporting goods store or shooting range and talking to some folks there. Try different guns to see if they fit your hand (I have small hands and some big guns are just uncomfortable to me, and the opposite can happen too). Many shooting ranges will let you rent handguns to try on the range, or include a variety to try if you take their handgun safety course.
